Sports Performance Counselling for Athletes
Train what they don’t. Your mind.
In high-level sports, mental strength separates good athletes from great ones. Confidence dips, performance anxiety, mental blocks, and the stress of injury can all interfere with focus and results.
At Burke Counselling in Devon, AB, we use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) — a fast, effective method designed to clear mental roadblocks, rebuild confidence, and help athletes return to peak performance. Minimal talking and no homework required!
Why This Approach to Mental Sport Performance?
Strong performance requires more than strategies for focus, confidence, or pushing through mental blocks. It depends on how the brain and nervous system respond under pressure. Many athletes know what to do mentally, yet still struggle when stress, fear, or past experiences interfere with execution.
Traditional mental performance strategies often focus on managing thoughts or pushing through discomfort. While they can be helpful, they don’t always address the root of the stress response.
That’s why I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). ART works directly with the nervous system to resolve performance blocks at their source, allowing athletes to respond with greater calm, clarity, and confidence. Instead of coping with pressure, athletes naturally change how their brain perceives the problem, leading to more consistent and instinctive performance.
This approach is efficient, evidence-based, and ideal for athletes seeking real, lasting mental change — not just strategies, but results.
ART is a cutting-edge, evidence-based approach that helps athletes:
Overcome performance anxiety and mental blocks
Enhance focus and concentration during competition
Process and move past sports-related traumas and injuries
Build mental resilience and confidence
Achieve peak performance states consistently
Stronger Mind. Stronger Game.
I work with athletes across a wide range of sports, including hockey players and goalies, gymnasts, powerlifters, volleyball players, baseball players, and more. Many talented, committed athletes carry a level of pressure that often goes unseen. Often pressure that can quietly impact focus, confidence, and performance.
Using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), I combine guided visualization with bilateral stimulation to help athletes reprocess the stress, fear, and self-doubt that interfere with performing at their best. This approach works directly with the nervous system, allowing change to happen at a deeper, more lasting level.
Many athletes notice meaningful changes in as little as 1-2 sessions, with an average of around 4 sessions. After that, sessions can be booked as needed to support ongoing performance, transitions, or new challenges.
